Weathervane Playhouse, Licking Memorial Health Systems, and Richardson Glass Present The Cemetery Club
Newark, OH. The Cemetery Club is directed by Weathervane’s Managing Artistic Director, Matthew Trombetta. Playwright Ivan Menchell uses humor, irony, and heartfelt emotion to examine the issues of death and re-kindling romance assuring that the only tears you’ll shed at this cemetery are tears of laughter. This play is funny, wise, and gloriously witty. Performances are June 18-20 and June 24-27 at 8p.m. at Weathervane Playhouse, 100 Price Rd. Newark, OH.
The Cemetery Club follows three middle-aged widows - Lucille (Ellie Unger of Newark, OH) an outrageous flirt, Doris (Dawn Farrell of Columbus, OH), dedicated to the memory of her husband and Ida (Angela Palazzolo of Columbus, OH) who is beginning to realize that she still has a life to live. Throw Sam (Dennis Kohler of Newark, OH), an eligible widower into the mix, and watch the sparks fly! As the play unfolds, the inner feelings of Ida, Lucille, and Doris are revealed, and show that, while life must move on, true friendship remains constant.
The Cemetery Club features performances from several Central Ohio natives. Dawn Farrell (Doris) and Angela Palazzolo (Ida) are from Columbus, while Ellie Unger (Lucille), Barbe Helwig (Mildred) and Dennis Kohler (Sam), are from the Newark/Granville area. The Cemetery Club marks Dennis Kohler’s 86th performance at the Weathervane Playhouse.
Amy Butler Designs is once again collaborating with Weathervane Playhouse. Last year Amy donated her beautiful design fabrics for the spritely costumes of Weathervane’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” This year, Amy’s fabrics will be used in the Cemetery Club scenic designs of Granville resident, Brice Corder. This collaboration of artistic companies lead to critical acclaim last year.
The Cemetery Club will perform June 18-20 and June 24-27 at 8p.m. Tickets are $23 for adults, $21 for senior citizens and students, and $15 for children under 12. A limited number of student rush tickets are available with a valid student ID 15 minutes before all performances for $10. All performances are at Weathervane Playhouse 100 Price Rd, Newark, OH.
