Weathervane Playhouse is proud to present Newark’s favorite part of the summer: ‘Cabaret at the Midland’ 2009. Join us onstage at the Midland Theatre for an exclusive backstage view. Seated on the beautiful Midland Stage, you will enjoy a catered meal, see unique performances and share personal stories with the 2009 Weathervane professional company, all from the actors’ point of view. The “Cabaret at the Midland” performances will be on Monday, June 22 and Sunday, July 19. Dinner will be served at 7p.m. onstage at The Midland Theatre, 36 N Park Pl Newark, OH.

The Grill on 21^st has once again teamed up with Weathervane’s Cabaret series to offer delectable dishes that are sure to tickle your taste buds. They are preparing a special menu for each performance.

Each evening of performance will feature Weathervane Playhouse’s 2009 company singing their favorite songs, and sharing inspiring memories and stories. It is an opportunity to get to know these fantastic artists in an intimate setting. These very different star-studded performances will take place onstage at the Midland Theatre: 36 North Park Place, Newark, OH:

The Cemetery Club

Weathervane Playhouse, Licking Memorial Health Systems, and Richardson Glass Present The Cemetery Club

Newark, OH.  The Cemetery Club is directed by Weathervane’s Managing Artistic Director, Matthew Trombetta. Playwright Ivan Menchell uses humor, irony, and heartfelt emotion to examine the issues of death and re-kindling romance assuring that the only tears you’ll shed at this cemetery are tears of laughter. This play is funny, wise, and gloriously witty.   Performances are June 18-20 and June 24-27 at 8p.m. at Weathervane Playhouse, 100 Price Rd. Newark, OH.

The Cemetery Club follows three middle-aged widows - Lucille (Ellie Unger of Newark, OH) an outrageous flirt, Doris (Dawn Farrell of Columbus, OH), dedicated to the memory of her husband and Ida (Angela Palazzolo of Columbus, OH) who is beginning to realize that she still has a life to live.   Throw Sam (Dennis Kohler of Newark, OH),  an eligible widower into the mix, and watch the sparks fly! As the play unfolds, the inner feelings of Ida, Lucille, and Doris are revealed, and show that, while life must move on, true friendship remains constant.

 The Cemetery Club features performances from several Central Ohio natives. Dawn Farrell (Doris) and Angela Palazzolo (Ida) are from Columbus, while Ellie Unger (Lucille), Barbe Helwig (Mildred) and Dennis Kohler (Sam), are from  the Newark/Granville area. The Cemetery Club marks Dennis Kohler’s 86^th performance at the Weathervane Playhouse.

Amy Butler Designs is once again collaborating with Weathervane Playhouse. Last year Amy donated her beautiful design fabrics for the spritely costumes of Weathervane’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” This year, Amy’s fabrics will be used in the Cemetery Club scenic designs of Granville resident, Brice Corder. This collaboration of artistic companies lead to critical acclaim last year.

The Cemetery Club will perform June 18-20 and June 24-27 at 8p.m. Tickets are $23 for adults, $21 for senior citizens and students, and $15 for children under 12. A limited number of student rush tickets are available with a valid student ID 15 minutes before all performances for $10. All performances are at Weathervane Playhouse 100 Price Rd, Newark, OH.

Weathervane’s 2009 Season opens with the feel-good musical Sweet Charity. Come meet Charity Hope Valentine, a lovelorn dance-hall hostess. She’s an eternal optimist in search of happiness. Join Charity on her misadventures as she shows us the rhythms and sounds of

Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning musical combines the well-loved fairy tales of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel, with the tale of a childless baker and his wife, who catalyze the action of the story by attempting to reverse a curse on their family in order to have a child. The classic story of an orphan girl who finds life and happiness by tending “a bit of earth” has charmed children and adults alike for generations. This Tony Award-winning musical adaptation of the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett is a treat for the whole family, and features some of the most stunning melodies from Broadway’s recent past. Special ticket price of two for $26 at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009.

In Memory of James W. Pyle 

Mr. Pyle, an attorney and partner of Reese, Pyle , Drake and Meyer P.L.L. 

A 1962 graduate of Newark High School, Jim lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He was named to the  first All-Ohio team as an offensive end and was co-captain. Jim later would be inducted into the Newark Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002. He was a member of National Honor Society, Student Council and Key Club, and received the Newark B’nai B’rith Good citizenship Award. Jim furthered his education at Cornell University, graduating in 1966. While there, he played football all four years and lettered in 1965. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and the Sphinx Head Honor Society, a group that recognizes Cornell’s senior class members who have given their time and passion to the university. The society was founded in 1890 by a group of senior males whose goal was to uplift the Cornell community. It is the university’s oldest secret senior honorsociety. Mr. Pyle then graduated in 1969 from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was a member of the Law Review.

Jim was a member of the Newark Ski Club, Granville Tennis Club and the Ohio State Bar Association, a fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation, and a member of the Licking County Law Library, where he served as secretary-treasurer and on the board for more than 25 years, and the Newark Public Library Board for 18 years. He served as president of the Licking County Bar Association, Newark Lion’s Club, and the Newark Area Chamber of Commerce in 1993-1994.

Mr. Pyle passed away on Wednesday December 26, 2007.

Sweet Charity
